Teacher Boot Camp

A three-day skill-building intensive with Beverly Johnson, LMBT

June 23-25, 2014 | Monday-Weds., 9:00am-5:00pm | 21 CE contact hours | $445

 

Successful teaching relies not only on knowledge of the subject matter being presented – but on a set of core competencies in the art and craft of teaching.

This intensive will introduce you to these competencies, and will provide an opportunity to develop (or increase) your knowledge, skills and abilities in following key areas:

  • Theory and Methodology of Somatic Education
  • Dynamics of the Teacher/Student Relationship
  • Presentation skills
  • Management of the classroom environment
  • Observation, assessment and evaluation skills
  • Overview of curriculum and lesson plan design

 

Teacher Boot Camp will build your physical, mental and emotional capacity so that you can “go the distance” in the classroom. We will balance periods of rigorous activity with rest and reflection as a model for optimal pacing and resilience.

You will learn through a variety of methods including lecture, small and large group discussion, physical exercises, somatic practices, and demonstrations. We encourage you to take the first step towards becoming a great teacher… or bring your skills to the next level in this dynamic workshop. The Teacher Boot Camp is recommended, but not required for admission into The Spirit of Learning®.

Through this course, you will experience greater strength of character, self-confidence, and a sense of belonging in community. Our goal is to work hard and have fun!

johnson_beverlyBeverly Johnson is a graduate of The Spirit of Learning® and a Lead Instructor for Massage Therapy and Professional Ethics/Laws courses at the Body Therapy Institute. She also trains and mentors teaching assistants at BTI. She is a BTI graduate, NC Licensed Massage & Bodywork Therapist (#928), ABMP member, attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, certified in Reiki, level II, and has completed leadership training with Strozzi Institute. Beverly has a thriving massage therapy practice in Pittsboro, NC.
